This is why Mozilla Labs releases take forever to come out: all the key people are busy updating their blogs when they should be paying attention during their meetings! ;-)

Congratulations to both of you. Hopefully this will give Palm a nice boost forward (says a decade-long Palm user, up until a month ago).

Jordan +1, I'd get a palm pre if they only weren't just available on bloody O2! If they freed up the service providers - I bet they'd sell a truck load more to frustrated non-iPhone owning peasants who don't want to change their entire broadband/phone/tv packages to another vendor! E.G. I'm on VIRGIN. Please someone save me from smartphoneless hell!

Can we safely assume that the header at devphone will soon change from the bottom of an iPhone to the gesture area of a Pre? :)

Reading the link from pablohoney really worries me - I've just submitted my first application to Palm, and if the process is as terrible as described in that blog post, I won't be bothering to write any more.

I'm even planning on buying in two weeks when they're on sale in Ireland, mostly because they're so nice to develop for..... I'll have to see how they reply to my submission.

Speaking of which, Ben and Dion, is it safe to presume that you'll be working on improving the dev tools? The inspector is very buggy, and the inability to debug with breakpoints is a big problem. Firebug for WebOS a possibility??

Congratulations for your new job, I've tried webOS since the first private beta and definitively is a great web technology.

Let me an advice about mobile web development and ajaxian.com: be more open to server centric world, today ajaxian.com is a clearly client centric magazine where AJAX=JavaScript framework.

This may be correct because TheServerSide.com and TheServerSide.net (I'm just citing brother sites) are more related with server side technologies including web.

But if you enter into mobile web development, server centric AJAX frameworks rule if you want to cover a wide range of mobile browsers.

Dealing with the overwhelming diversity of mobile browsers is a really really hard task for any client centric framework (for instance, try your favorite AJAX client framework with BlackBerry Bold, Storm, JDE 4.6+ in general). Therefore almost only server centric frameworks like <a href="http://www.itsnat.org" rel="nofollow">ItsNat</a> (very specialized in mobile web) and <a href="http://www.icefaces.org" rel="nofollow">IceFaces</a> do something decent in mobile using AJAX.

Disclaimer: I'm the author of ItsNat.

While you're there, try and get Palm to not lock down their Palm Pre on to any one service provider.

Congrats guys...

Your first mission is to put out this fire:

"I think it's safe to say that I won't be developing any more software for the Palm Pre."

It was on the reddit front page today.

Congrats! Do you guys always change companies together? It's like Siskel and Ebert, but in JavaScript. It's pretty cool to have found your tech-soulmate. :)
