Announcing a wiki on Ajax Patterns:

This is an in-progress collection of AJAX patterns being collected and discovered by Michael Mahemoff, building on an initial draft published on my blog about two weeks ago.

The patterns consist of:

  • Architectural Patterns: auto-page refresh, unique URLs on events, predictive fetch, and client site cache
  • Display Patterns: Age display, sync status, and embeded text
  • Interaction Patterns: Drag and drop, popup, validation, fading, and live search
  • ServerSide Programming Patterns: Browser agnostic components, server side code gen, and RESTful services
  • ClientSide Programming Patterns: XHR factory, per request, and Javascript XML parsing

I attended the AP “Designing & Building with Ajax” yesterday (you two are the best, the AP people need to work on their “presence”). The one thing that I thought about asking was this very subject – AJAX Patterns. I think this a solution to a problem – constant designing of “micro state diagrams” could be problematic. But if “everyone” understands what a “Suggestor Pattern” is, then you can just put in in your IA documentation and run with it; a rich catalog of AJAX patterns is the key.

I’d love to hear a podcast commentary on this subject.
