Audible Ajax Episode 4: Alex Russell Interview

Category: Podcasts

We had the pleasure of interviewing Alex Russell of the Dojo project recently. This podcast consists of the state of ajax, and then the first part of a two part interview with Alex.

State of Ajax

Alex Russell Interview

The interview starts approximately 14 minutes into the podcast :)

  • Introducing Alex Russell of Dojo
  • Where did the Dojo toolkit come from?
  • One of the most talked about features is dojo.io.bind(), but Dojo is a lot more than that. What are all of the pieces?
  • You said that you write code differently due to the Dojo event system. What is this system, and why is it so important?
  • Tying into the forward and back button in bind() is impressive. How did you actually do that?
  • Where do you see Dojo going in the future?
  • Do you think there is going to be a push for JavaScript on the server side?
  • You guys ship a tweaked version of Rhino. What did you have to tweak?
  • What tools and utilities do you use for unit testing?
  • What would you like to see in JavaScript?
  • Is there anything you would like Microsoft to add to IE?
  • What do you think Microsoft’s motives are with IE now they have Avalon etc?

I think you all need to check out the systm show on creating podcast. At one point when you talk about the Google Reader, the guy suddenly blares my speakers. Learn to balance out the sound.

Pretty good show.

I would have liked to hear some discussion on how Dojo and Prototype/Scriptaculous compare and differ.

Also, the podcast really needs to be normalized. The interview was loud but the rest of the show was extremely quiet.

I’m sorry if anyone is offended by this but…

When given a question, the Dojo representative could have said SOMETHING besides “so…” everytime he responded.

Question? So…..

Question 2? So….

So just answer the question.

Thank you.
