Blackberry Storm using Raphael (SVG/VML) and SoundManager

Category: JavaScript, jQuery, Showcase, SVG

Brad Neuberg pointed me to a Blackberry Storm site that uses Raphael, jQuery, and SoundManager to offer an SVG / VML (for IE) experience.

  1. <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.7.0/jquery-ui.min.js"></script>
  2. <script src="/js/soundmanager2-nodebug-jsmin.js"></script>
  3. <script src="/js/raphael-min.js"></script>
  4. <script src="/js/trig-min.js"></script>

Most creative ad agencies do slick Flash development for sites like this (I used to work at an agency on the HTML side), so I think it’s neat and “forward-thinking” seeing a commercial site using JS + SVG/VML for the core content vs. what’d typically be a 100% Flash experience.

Can you tell why?
Who’s the biggest competitor? What plugin does it not have?
