Wes,

To follow on to Steve's comments. This is a sample application that's designed to show how one can build an application on top of the Microsoft platform. We use a ton of different pieces and parts, any of which could be replaced with another implementation of your choosing.

We're also server guys, so design is not quite our forte, and I will try to get that web menu fixed. Here's a partial list of the technologies in this demo:

IIS7
Windows Workflow Foundation
Windows Communication Foundation (talking ws-*, pox, msmq)
CardSpace
Windows Presentation Foundation
Linq
Powershell
Longhorn Server transactional file system
Vista Sidebar Gadgets
ASP.NET AJAX
MMC Snap-ins (for managing the applications)
A Windows Mobile client

I'm probably missing a few details as well.

We'll be following up this initial video with deeper diving screencasts on the individual technologies, because for each one we tried to highlight different scenarios.

wes: You realize this is just a contrived sample app for a fictitious company, right?

The technologies they're showing are extremely broad platform pieces like ASP.NET AJAX and the Windows Communication Foundation.

It seems pretty neat, but a difference I keep noticing between, for instance, Microsoft and Google is that MS always makes their applications specific to one goal, while other companies make general platforms that can be integrated into any market (i.e. Google Maps). Maybe I'm just being nice and not directly stating the benefit of open source.. ;)

oh and the menu - like most MS apps, it's a trendy feature, not a bug.
