Firefox 3 beta 4: postMessage and perf
<>p>Mozilla has released Firefox 3 beta 4 which includes new standards support and performance:- Improved platform features such as: support for HTML5’s window.postMessage and window.messageEvent, JavaScript 1.8 improvements, and offline data storage for web applications.
- Performance improvements: changes to our JavaScript engine as well as profile guided optimization resulted in significant gains over previous releases in the popular SunSpider test from Apple, web applications like Google Mail and Zoho Office run much faster, and continued improvements to memory usage drastically reduce the amount of memory consumed over long web browsing sessions.
There is news on the Firefox 3b5 schedule. The final version has to not be TOO far in the future.

I loved b3 — very stable, and very fast. I accepted the auto-update to b4, and what a disaster. Toolbars were lost, prior session was gone, and worst of all, I was totally unable to open URL’s in new tabs — almost as if the browser simply didn’t work. Pah. I ended up reinstalling b3, which is where I’ll stay for a while.
Personally, I’d highly recommend staying on b3, and avoiding b4.
contrary to DaveG’s experience, i find b4 FANTASTIC!!! it’s much much faster. the UI has a nice subtle refresh, etc etc. i highly recommend upgrading to b4.
but,…. where’s the add-on updates? Goggle Sync, Email This, Firebug beta is unstable, Web Developer, Colorzilla.
Yeah, DaveG, I don’t know what happened to yours but it works fine for me. Beta4 is now even faster! And to think, there are still more betas to come out. I hope it beats out Safari one day. =)
David, I’m interested in what went wrong on your setup. Can you email me so I can try to help diagnose the problem? I’m reachable at asa@mozilla.com
