I'd like to see the ability to view free/busy times for friends / co-workers (a la Exchange/Outlook), to facilitate scheduling a meeting with others.

I want to see rich, interactive features. Zimbra has set the bar high with their mash-ups, I'd like to see this move rapidly forward
...integration with many of the web apps Google has been acquiring and/or building -- some examples could be connecting the calendar with Writely to include notes in your calendar (diary, thoughts, etc), easily move parts of those notes into emails, the ability to share your calendar with others, perhaps combining the calendar with a blog or a GoogleWebPage for items like invitations to others (i.e. once you scheduled an Party, or whatever, in your calendar, you would then have a hyperlink to send out perhaps via a right click "broadcast invite to my event" and then could easily add addresses or a group to gmail which would automatically included that link and info for your party, log accepted or rejected), integrating Google services like Google Adwords for budgeting and tracking right on the calendar (or Google AdSense to see your blog revenue each day) by selecting from a list of Ad Campaigns (not via a dropdown, but via something more extensible, off the top of my head, like typing in : "Adsense" in the search bar, which would then present you with options once the page updated via an XHR call..... the search bar could have GoogleSuggest-like lookups for reserved keywords that enabled custom views like this in the calendar. and DEFINITELY open up the API for all to provide "mash-ups" that worked with their Calendar in all the ways we can think of.

...aside: I really love Backpack, from 37signals for documenting my own development ideas on projects (great spot for links, thoughts, lists, sample code, etc)... I can't live without it now. Something like this could integrate nicely with the Calendar in a few ways.

cheers,
Mark

The ability to subscribe to (and preferably publish) vCal (iCal) calendars would be a must-have for me. From Mike's post it looks like they've got that covered.

I know that the folks at Oddpost (now at Yahoo!) had a very sweet calendar working almost 2 years ago - but it was an island (you couldn't integrate it with anything else), which greatly lessened it's utility.

I wonder how they'll handle alerts? Through the Gmail Notifier?
