Orbjson Ruby Intro Article

Category: Ajax, HTML, JavaScript, Ruby, XmlHttpRequest

<p>James Britt has written an article titled Getting started with Orbjson (PDF).

Orbjson is a JSON-RPC object request broker for JavaScript/Ruby RPC interaction.

Communication between client and server is done using JSON, the JavaScript object notation

Orbjson takes JSON-RPC requests, locates the correpsonding server-side object, deserializes the requrst, and invokes the method call.

Orbjson then takes the results of this invocations and sends it back to the client as a JSON-RPC response.

The paper is a walkthrough of creating a Google Suggest-esque system with Ruby on the server-side.

A lot of the client-side JavaScript is written for you, and you just have to write some glue code to put it all together.

At the end of the day you get access to an ORB, and then when you call a method, it talks over to the server and calls the related method there.

A nice tutorial.
