Shameless self-promotion: http://www.theserverside.com/tt/articles/article.tss?l=AjaxWarrior

This is a sample chapter from my book Practical Ajax Projects with Java Technology. It's in the same mold as this game, but perhaps a little more fully fleshed-out (i.e., includes a combat system, spell casting, character interactions, and a larger, more intricate world to explore (plus an overall goal). Granted, it doesn't use any libraries, it's "naked" Ajax and Java on the server-side, but it's still interesting I think.
