Showcase: Ajax Calendar

Category: Showcase

I love my Mac, and I use iCal to coordinate my life. I’ve even created my own (proprietary-stupid-groupware-application)-to-iCal unidirectional sync. But the problem is, the rest of my friends and families are generally on PCs (with few but notable exceptions). I wish there were a way to use a rich application like iCal in a group mode so that we could all collaborate.

And now, there is. Sort of. Karl O’Keeffe has put together an Ajax Calendar application. It’s a toy so far, but will be fun to watch as this comes together. The interface ain’t bad at all for a 0.1 release. Way to go, Karl.

You could replace iCal entirely in my life as soon as you start using canvas to draw neat eye candy gradients and provide an off-line mode ;-)

Geez this is awesome… Looks like it’s using the framework for that phpicalendar (which is a nice app in it’s own right).

Doesn’t look like the developer is offering the source ajax part to download.. Anyone know?

Really awesome.
Good work.
Do you plan to do the day view?

Josh: Hi, I’m the author of Monket Calendar. I plan to release all the source code within the week under a liberal open source license. Just need to fix a few bugs and tidy it up first.

Jeremi: I don’t plan on implementing a day view, as the calendar is just a pet project for me and I don’t find the day view that useful. But that won’t stop anyone else adding it if they want!

This is really awesome. I’m glad that you’re releasing it.

It’ll be great to work with!

Thanks Karl!

Wow. This thing is incredibly slow. Just wait til Google releases their calendar any day now.

Have you tried phpicalendar, along with Mozilla calendar as a PC client? I’ve got it working/synching with iCal on the Mac, and Mozilla Calendar on several PC’s. Four different users are able to update the calendar, but *anyone* can view the calendar and/or subscribe to the RSS feed.

I’ve released the final beta of Monket Calendar.
You can grab the source code from here:

If you end up installing it, let me know how it goes.
