Smooth Gallery 1.0 Released
Jonathan Schemoul has released Smooth Gallery 1.0, an image gallery system written using mootools v1.0.
The slideshow system allows you to have simple and smooth (cross-fading…) image galleries, slideshows, showcases and other cool stuff on your website.
Check out this SmoothGallery showcase.
Also, take a peak at the Getting Started guide.

Sigh… Back button. Middle click.
Its pretty decent… I don’t love the UI in the thumbnails area, but that a personal preference against the UI itself… the implimentation is decent…
my biggest complaint is preloading… these galleries will never work till a proper preloader with download progress is implimented… I’ve done a few myself and that has always been the fallback… people are used to using flash galleries that in detail report on the progress of loading and offload that loading where possible… the same needs to hold true for js galleries if they’re ever going to hold par against their counterparts…
Jeez, could that girl look any more unhappy?
ImplEment, not implIment
Great script…but where’s the ajax?
Meh. I suppose if that sort of thing works for you. It doesn’t do it for me.
@samson: Wow, you really contrIbuted to the thread. Weak sauce! I agree that a lot of my dev buddies use flash galleries over js ones.
Very nice js gallery, it feels nothing different from the best flash galleries out there
a lot of lackluster response to the release of this gallery, but i must say that i really like it. there was obviously some thought put into the design, and the usage is nice and clean. although flash has its advantages in some cases, for the non-designer, this was perfect. i had it up and running in a few minutes, something i could not have done with flash (since i am totally sucky with flash).
Nice gallery however when I use more than 10 thumbnails the “View Thumbnails” section starts to shake on mouseover. Has anyone else experienced this?
Hey,
Thanks for all this feedback ! :)
All the download problem you have experienced where mainly due to the digg effect the website was having at the time of this post.
@Daemone:
This bug is fixed in 1.0.1. So download it, and it should correct this problem :)
@ AndyB
It’s amizing wat u can find when googling on the words:
” javascript preload image progress bar ”
Solved..
Hi john,
I noticed that if i use more than 45 thumbnails the “View Thumbnails†section starts to shake on mouseover like brian said.. Do you have a solution for that ?
