Regarding the 'negative' comment about being rock solid, in fact I see this as a nice compliment as the number of people hitting the samples site is way bigger that the little machine hosting them.
Having a server 'being too busy' is something that Sun is very good at solving:-) Too much demand is always a good opportunity.

I already had my negative comment for the day, and I try to limit to one a day, but visiting the demo at this URL http://webdev1.sun.com/jsf-ajax-cardemo/faces/chooseLocale.jsp results in "The connection has timed out. Server at http://webdev1.sun.com is too busy or unavailable...".
So, while the underlying technology might be rock solid and good like the Java language, the implementation is about as bad (and as buggy) as Sun JavaOne online Registration application.

I don't think jMaki / Phobos get nearly enough credit for what they are doing. Javascript is a first class citizen that obviously hasn't been included as an afterthought on some other tech.

It's probably in a lot of our interests to see more things like this get recognized even if you don't like the competition. . . ;)

Yes, I think you're referring to JSR-223 which has already been implemented in JDK6 and bridges java and several scripting languages including PHP.

Netbeans also has some PHP support, so it's not really the first time Sun support PHP devs.

AFAIK Sun did indeed work with Zend at least a couple of years ago, maybe more. At some point there was a surge of articles around the net about using PHP as the presentation layer for heavy J2EE applications. And the existing Java-PHP integration in PHP is the result of that collaboration.
