Talk like a Pirate day is coming! Here’s a script to join the fun

Category: Fun

<>p>This Saturday, the 19th of September is once again talk like a pirate day and there is a terribly easy way this year to turn your boring ol’ site into a swashbuckling Piratespeak one. Simply include the following script node at the end of your body element:

  1. <script src="http://l.yimg.com/d/lib/ydn/js/pirate1252961643.js"></script>

The Piratespeak translation script is powered by Yahoo’s YQL and is based on a dictionary that you can help to extend. Using the YQL piratespeak insert table or the form set up here you can add your own Piratespeak to English translation terms and make this an even saltier experience.

If you simply want to turn any web site into Piratespeak you can use the piratize bookmarklet – just try it here, right now.

For more detailed info on just how the piratespeak open tables work, check out the in-depth blog post on the Yahoo Developer Network.

That’s hilarious. Clicking the bookmarklet on any technical article automatically makes it seem like Blackbeard the pirate wrote it.

AAaarrrrrrr!!!!

Ahhh… Automatic translators, gotta love ‘em.

“- just try it here, starboard now.”

It took me a minute to figure out what the heck a ‘starboard’ was.

Lot’s ‘o fun though, no matter th’ occasional hiccups. Arrrr!
