The Pyxy Gallery – an Ajax/PHP Project

Category: Utility

There’s a new kid in town for anyone looking for a simple, easy to use (and most importantly) clean image gallery to load onto their site – the Pyxy Gallery.

The script is a package created in PHP using some advanced Javascript (and the Lightbox library) to pull off its interface and preview method. Prototype is thrown into the mix to bring even more power to the table, as well as the needed Ajax connections to make the whole application as light on the bandwidth as possible. Plus, it’s all tied up in a single PHP script to make it very easy to implement (just check out the documentation). There’s even a sample gallery you can check out.

The package is only in version 1.11 for now, but with several helpful (and some not so helpful) contributions in it’s digg post, you can be sure there’ll be more to come.

I found this a few days ago and tried it out. The only gripe i have with it is that the coding quality is pretty terrible. Otherwise its a very nice piece of kit. If the code could be re-written and also adding a decent design into it, it would be an excellent application.

Love the idea.

hey why your don’t say about http://www.roostercode.com ? i have use of alipager version 1.5! that’s a great ajax job

Very generic script IMHO. Only useful thing I could see about it was the #paging in the url, which means you can send a page (not an image location) to a buddy.

Generic script… sounds like a compliment… :)

Yes, good work, but I think that isn’t really great.

Although I can’t find it anywhere, I’d seen a similar work in an Ajax theme for Gallery2. I’m not sure if it incorporated Lightbox but other than that it did a good work of integrating Ajax (and URL #pages) into Gallery2.

For the life of me, I can’t find the thing anywhere (I can find references to Ajax themes for G2, but none that use Lightbox)

I’ve done an ajax photo library as well – its got a much better interface plus rss/atom feeds. It will be open sourced soon, click my name to take a look if you are interested.

The theme is called “Ajaxian”. The demo is pretty slick, with a nice responsive UI with some dynamic resizing of images. More information at http://codex.gallery2.org/index.php/Gallery2:Themes:ajaxian
