Vanthia

Category: Games

Scott Schiller, favourite DHTML hax0r, pointed us to Vanthia “a browser based Massive Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game in development.”

The game appears to use Mootools for the underlying library, the UI is quite well done and the map uses an isometric, pixel-based style.

Check out the forum.

Looks a lot better than any of the flash based MMORPGs I’ve seen.

Check this Polish javascript-based MMORPG http://margonem.pl/
BTW: why not flash? Actionscript is awesome, environment is more stable, no cross-browser problems, better communications (sockets?)

Oh, yeah. Vanthia is also from Poland ;) Good luck!

Why not flash???

1. No plugins, seamless
2. No vendor tie in
3. Native, not encapsulated
4. Accesible

Yes flash is more stable at the moment, but although flash has and will for some time remain dominant in this niche, they won’t for ever. Doing things like this in JavaScript / HTML5 offer far more opportunities.

Flash is not in engineering terms the best solution

Oops; it looks like the owner took the video(s) down from Vimeo; perhaps they didn’t want so many people to see it. Nonetheless, for those interested, you might find some screencasts of the demo if you search for the game on that other big video site. ;)

Seems they don’t like “gaming videos”…
